So.. my earlier thread helped me find many flaws in my cold weather sleep system, I am upgrading my ground pad to a neoair xtherm (currently in sale at Moosejaw btw). I have read all the different comparison studies, and am torn between the Feathered Friends Ibis and the Western Mountaneering Kodiak MF. I have a FF 20 degree Flickr quilt and have been Very happy with it, is there truly a reason it’s worth the extra $100 for the WM? I’m open to experiences or opinions on the two. They are both excellent companies which makes the decision more difficult.

thanks In advance!

Literally a coin toss between those two. Can't go wrong with either, and there's not a $100 difference between them. The Ibis is $650 and the Kodiak $710 for 6' lengths $675 and $730 for 6'6" lengths. Both excellent companies and bags

As above....two top tier companies- the choice becomes personal preference.
The WM Kodiak with the MF shell has 1.5oz more down and is 5oz lighter than the FF Ibis......so the Kodiak probably will pack down smaller and be at least equal to if not slightly warmer (really pulling hairs though).

Quality wise they are a toss up. We have both WM and FF in the house. If you want a water resistant laminate shell, I like the pertex shield that FF offers better than the Windstopper that WM uses. If you don't want a laminate, WM is your only option (in this range of bags) with their microfiber.

I had the privileged last year of trying both. The FF store in Downtown Seattle is right across the street from the flagship REI store that carries WM. The are both excellent bags. I went with the FF because it was more spacious. Bare in mind my comparison was in the store, not the field.

Interesting that you felt the Ibis is more spacious as the Kodiak has larger internal dimensions than the Ibis. 64/58/40 on the Ibis and 67/58/41 on the Kodiak. Just shows how different everyone's perceptions are.
