Have had a 300 WSM in Win Mod 70 for a while now but never really to to where I was shooting it much.
Now that I am I have a few questions about the rifle and the WSM in general.

From my understanding these rifles seem to like a heavier bullet in the 180 class.
Which I am fine with I have quite a few different to choose from.
Here is where I have some questions.

I have heard some talk about a 300 WSM with a long throat can determine how heavy of a bullet you can use. I have seen some people stating they are shooting bullets up in the 200gr+ class.

How do I know if I might have a rifle with a longer throat?

The plan I have to start loading this thing is with 180gr Accubonds as I have some. On top of H4350.

I wouldn't put any stock in people over generalizing that the cartridge likes any particular weight bullet. It can shoot all weights well.

You probably have a rifle with a SAAMI throat. Custom chambered rifles often have longer throats intentionally to load heavy bullet long and not have to seat them deep into the case. Do you know how to measure where a given bullet contacts lands? Do that to figure out where your jam is with a given bullet.

That should be a good place to start.

180 in lead is a good (mono's are longer for the same weight).

When you get over 180ish and a factory SAMI rifle the bullet ends up seated deep into the case. This just means you loose room for powder. Then your magnum isn't performing at it's potential.

Can it shoot heavier than 200....sure. Assuming your barrel has the right twist.

Currently taking on my first ever reloading project utilizing Form's "Painless Load Development." I started with RL16 and the 180 accubond. Factory Christensen Traverse chamber. As already mentioned the SAAMI spec chamber will likely limit length.

You could try the loctite method to find max length(jam) of that rifle.
