Hey guys just wanted to know which do you think is better at longer ranges at about 300yards and in. I shot some Federal TSX bullets and they hit very good at 100 but once you get to 200 and up it starts to open a lot. Out of my 308. TIKKA at 300 yards the groups were about 4.5inches which im not happy about. Out of my Weatherby it was about 3.5inches at 300 which is good but i feel like those groups can be better with the right ammo. Any advice would help.

I have limited experience with both. Shot a bull with 30-06 TTSX. Two shots from about 60 yards, both exited with around an inch exit hole. They would shoot 1.5” at 300 in my old xbolt.
I used the TC in my 25-06 for a year and shot 2 antelope and 2 whitetail bucks. 3/4 it performed great. But one of the bucks i shot from about 15-20’ away and it penciled right through with zero expansion.
Take all that for what you will. It’s a very small sample size

Mono’s like speed at impact to perform well. You don’t say the weight of your bullet options. I’d avoid any mono at 308 velocities that did not have a tip. That’s just me. So a TTSX or even better a LRX, is where I’d look. I avoid HP mono’s in smaller calibers and especially in lower velocity cartridges. I have no experience with the Federal offerings. In .308, a 150 or 168 TTSX or similar weighted LRX‘s, if offered, would be where I’d look. Not sure what they offer in a LRX. The Barnes 165‘s are more for magnum’s with their higher velocities, last I checked the 168’s were a softer bullet, am guessing a larger HP cavity to help expansion. I don’t consider the 308 to generally be a good mono candidate much past 300, unless you are sticking to the light weight offerings. Even then… I shoot mono’s at game a bunch and like them within their limitations.

Thank you for the info. My 308 would be at 150 grains and 270 at 130gr

Don't know what the factory offerings are for a 130 TTSX in .308 and 110 gr TTSX in .270 Win, but I load those weights in an '06 and 270 Win. Both have taken pronghorn, muley's and elk out to the distances you describe. If your 270 is a Weatherby (you mention a Weatherby), plenty of steam to go with a 130 TTSX and carry velocity that mono's like, IMO.

The federal trophy coppers, 308 150, are my Montana’s favorite load. The only sub moa one I found besides the gmm.
