It's a different thing to expect people to buy a new gun/barrel as opposed to improving cartridges they already use. I'm also a bit biased since I don't reload so factory offerings that turn my 6.5CM into a 6.5 Shitkicking 3000 are fine with me.

And what if the factory ammo shoots the bullet you chose like crap? I will gladly keep my PRC that I have handloads dialed in for and will still have more velocity than these new cartridges. I’m sure these will work great for many but a lot of you guys are only concerned about velocity, it seems.

I don't think so. They chose 6.5 creedmoor bc it's modern chambering and theyve all been built recently and they know they likely can handle the increased pressures. There's no 6.5 creedmoors from 1952 floating around. It also hurts Hornadys baby in the 6.5 prc as an added bonus.

AFAIK nobody has said that they chose it because its a newer cartridge. That could absolutely be the case, i just dont think that has been stated yet.

Personally I think it was the right choice because its an accurate cartridge, they sell a ton of ammo for it, and if it has a weakness, its velocity. Problem solved.

Thats true about any new cartridge until dies, cases, etc are available. It was true about 6.5 PRC when it was first announced. This is no different.

Area 419 said they are working on dies in their video about this. The OL video said there are others including RCBS & SAC

I’m not saying it’s a dead-end road at all. It’s in its infancy. Once good dies and processes are available and proven, I’ll be on board.

Again, the .30-06 already underwent this same thing with the M1 Garand. They will be fine and will eventually get the same upgrades.

I really didn't pay attention to this because another new 6.5 doesn't excite me. But what Federal did with this has me pretty excited, especially that 153gr. TMK offering. I hate the buzzword, but I think this really is a gamechanger, especially for us 6.5BB owners.

Good thing is in the meantime, factory ammo for normal velocity 6.5CM is very plentiful with many great options to test out. As opposed to the 7BC where the alternative is just trying to handload some.

Looks pretty darn sweet to my eyes. I'm most interested in knowing how the 155 grain tipped fusions stack up. BC is right up there with Hornady options. Cool that they will be loading the 153 TMK too...makes me happy to have 3 6.5s to play with

Seems unlikely that it will shoot like crap given the huge military contract awarded to Federal for Peak+ cases. The Federal contract also suggests that we'll see cases with military applications come out first. 6.5CM was the obvious starting point for a profitable and widespread consumer cartridge.

I expect that Legacy cases like 260, 270, 30-30, etc. are redundant with 6.5CM or other planned Peak+ modern cases (e.g.6ARC, 7.62, etc) used by the Military and are not worth R&D costs for Federal, despite a loud but small minority of users clamoring for their release.

Looks like 153 TMK should be plenty stable out of a typical 1/8 twist 20" barrel at 2700 fps (guessing here) at 9,000 ft and 30f. This is exciting.

I was wanting to build a 7 backcountry out of a .270win I had laying around. Almost don’t know if it’s worth it now . That $800 profit barrel is a lot of +peak 6.5cm ammo

Using the steel cases for existing cartridges is exactly what we were saying in that original thread. The technology is great, but coming out with a brand new chambering to introduce it was an obvious money-grab compared to just supplying the ammo people could actually use. I’ll happily buy the gassed up ammo if it works as advertised.
