Federal 6.5 Backcountry?

The numbers from Outdoor Life have me interested. Wonder when the cases will come to market? Didn't see a notify me button on their site for those

No I think it says 300 fps faster than 6.5 Creed with moderately increased recoil and 50-100 faster than 6.5 PRC with less recoil.

"It allows for dimensionally identical 6.5 Creedmoor cases to be loaded hot enough to produce muzzle velocities that are 300 fps faster than conventional 6.5 CM loads without increasing perceived recoil. That means that 6.5 Creedmoor +Peak ammunition outperforms 6.5 PRC by 100 fps across all barrel lengths while having less kick, too."

True, not much advantage in dropping your 6.5PRC.....but for those of us with a 6.5Creed, this potentially unlocks some possibilities that have always carried significant tradeoffs.

6.5 Needsmore just Gotmore.

If I had a 6.5 PRC and liked it, I would not sell it.

But, I would definitely buy a new 6.5 CM vs a new 6.5 PRC.
1) Cheaper ammunition for times when additional velocity is not needed. Definitely cheaper to practice with.
2) A huge selection of factory loads to choose from.
3) Similar velocity to the PRC when needed.
4) Backcountry cartridges for short barrels.

I think Federal hit a home run.

I won't be selling my new PRC. But I sure am glad I talked my brother into going Creedmoor for his first new rifle ever yesterday. I might have to buy one too!

I'm definitely interested to see what's next for PEAK cases. 6.5 Creedmoor makes so much sense. I see the entire Creedmoor family and most of the PRC family getting this treatment. Maybe not PRC if that competes with their Backcountry.

Ditto, I'm a 6mm Creed guy through and through, but the thoughts of being able to practice w/ standard 6.5CM ammo in a low recoiling platform, and then switch to + Peak loaded with long/heavy TMKs for hunting scenarios, is intriguing...

Propsects of necking these down to 6mm Creedmoor??? :ROFLMAO:

Sell your PRCs before it’s too late.

The standard calibers are going to thrive once more.

.270 .308 .30-06 are gonna be magnums now. They will surely get this technology.
I tend to agree. But I do see a problem with classic calibers that have so many old actions being used.

Yea I'm thinking the "perceived" is doing some work there. Regardless, not getting 300 fps over PRC velocity with less recoil than standard PRC.

Some of their wording is a bit contradictory but overall sounds like a lot faster than Creed with negligible or moderate recoil penalty, and a bit faster than PRC with a recoil reduction.

I almost bought one of Eurooptics' 6.5 PRCs on sale a while back. I'm glad I didn't. That tipped fusion loading in particular looks like a must-try from my 18" Creedmoor.

While this is amazing steps forward in technology and for the average Joe that shoots box ammo I think its a no brainer to go with a creedmoor, I cant see myself abandoning my PRC anytime soon if for no other reason than I'm setup to reload brass cases and from what I understand while reloading peak cases is possible its a royal nightmare it sounds like.

Comparing box data to box data however the 156 berger at 2900 from a 20" barrel is basically the same as 6.5-300 weatherby 156 berger ammo at 3050 from a 26" tube which is mind blowing to say the least

Just saw this surfing the web

Looks like federal won a military contract that is going to use peak alloy in several chambers up to 50bmg.
Maybe there is going to be a nato spec 6.5cm + peak alloy?
Anybody got a ballpark # on bushings to neck the 50 BMG to 6MM. Is it too soon to start a thread: "When will Tikka build a 50 BMG doner action?"
