Federal 6.5 Backcountry?

There are peak alloy like steel cases from NAS3 for the 65cm, unfortunately only way to get them is in loaded form from various ammo makers. I wonder when we'll be able to buy them for our own handloads?

Hmmmmmmm gundigest published it before the announcement? that may have been a boo-boo

EDIT: NVM, my dates were off.....I was thinking today was the 4th.

“Federal is initially offering 6.5 Creedmoor +Peak in 130-grain Terminal Ascent and 155-grain Fusion Tipped, but Gold Medal Sierra Tipped MatchKing, Barnes LRX, Berger Elite Hunter and more loads will be coming soon as well.”

I’m just wondering….why?
Non-magnum 6.5prc that doesn't have the typical velocity caveat from chopping the barrel and works in almost all existing rifles, which number in the millions. Other than handloading question marks, it looks like wins all around to me.
Also opens up the super-heavy-for-caliber bullet options without the massive velocity penalty as shown by the 155gr Fusion Tipped.

More importantly IMO, this is also confirmation that Federal isn't afraid of peak cases in existing cartridges so I would expect ALOT of other +peak coming.

308, .30-06, 243, 7-08, 270, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc

lots of interesting possibilities

18" 308 1:8 with 212 borerider at .30-06 velocities is an interesting possibility.

or

243 112gr @ typical 90gr velocities.

7mm-08 with 175gr near 7Mag velocities?

I think it’s a win. I’m glad they just improved the 6.5 creed instead of a new cartridge. You can use your 6.5 for nrl and throw in plus peak for hunting. That’s something in my opinion.

Also, what it means for current cartridges getting peak alloy. Federal, please make a 338 federal plus peak.

I agree. Not another new chambering, sounds like they're going to offer TMKs in factory loads, and they went the right direction by applying the concept to a smaller cartridge. Maybe, just maybe, Federal is starting to "read the room" 😂

Or just use the +peak ammo and not worry about power factor
