Favorite Upland Vest

I’ve been very happy with the Chief Upland vest and would throw it into the mix for a modular vest that carries well and is durable. I like the functionality of the shell pouches as well. No experience with the other premium vests to compare.

Own just about every vest known to mankind. LOL
This one has been by far my favorite.

I had a little too much fun at a pheasants forever banquet and ended up with both a Pyke vest and a Chief Upland. Of the two, I like the Chief Upland more. I also have to shout out their customer service. I ordered another pouch to go with it and didn’t click the expedited shipping. Opening weekend was coming up so I emailed them to ask if I could upgrade the shipping. They sent it to me free of extra charge despite two offers to pay for the increased shipping charges.

I've only used a badlands. Its ok to pretty good but I would like the zipper pockets on the back to be bigger more like the tenzing bucksnbulls posted above. I have used the badlands for going after snowshoe hare on skis and I Think it does that a bit better. You can roll a jacket and clip it onto the straps at the bottom of the vest to carry it but I have not found a good place for a water bottle. Just dropping it in the back pocket gets blood all over it once I get something. It does have a pocket and clips for a water bladder and it works fine unless its cold enough to freeze the line.

I run the Tenzing TZ BV16 vest https://www.tenzingoutdoors.com/tz-bv16/ it’s got great shoulder straps and unlike some vest company’s it’s got two belts for the waist allowing for a lot of adjustment and being able to have most of the load set on your hips rather than your shoulder. Ample side pocket storage for gps remotes, whistles, dog snacks, tons of shell storage, and my favorite is the water bladder compatibility and the large storage pocket similar to a backpack that I can stow rain gear and a puffer/my dogs first aid kit. It’s got a lot of storage and is made of a rip stop material and has reinforcement in high use/contact areas. I’ve used it about 3 seasons now and it’s going strong!
