Santa came early and brought me a Marlin 1895 SBL. Bought some basic Core Lokt plinkers in 300gn and 405gn, BUT for the inevitable hunt I’d love any well-performing factory load suggestions. I’ve seen 325gn LeverEvolution recommended. Yes, no, others?

Thanks.

I've never shot anything in my 45/70 but the Leverevolution in 325 FTX. They're sub moa out to 200 yards (havent shot beyond that) and they absolutely thump whitetails. I've had only one leave the scene after the shot. I'm shooting a Henry with the octagon barrel.

Maybe depends a little on what you are hunting...

With deer pretty much any factory load at usual .45-70 distances should work well.

I hand load and bought a box of regular winchester 300 gr soft points when i purchased a Henry, and like for Castle Oak, they absolutely thump WT deer with a moderate push of recoil.

I haven't taken any game yet with the 300 gr Hammers i loaded warm yet, and I doubt there is much in the lower 48 that would not fall to it at close .45-70 distances (100 yds for me).
