Need another quality cleaning rod. I currently have a Dewey rod that I purchased 15 years ago. I need one that can be used for .22 to .264 cal. Should I get another Dewey or is there something better?

Another vote for Dewey’s coated rods. I’ve used them for the last 22 years in the Army and post military life for my hunting and target guns, and I have yet to find something better for my purposes.

I have a Dewey, good cleaning rod. Also have a Tipton carbon fiber rod that I really like. My preference is Pro shot. They all are pretty good, I believe a good bore guide is just as important.

I have a Dewey with the ball bearing handle , bought a thread adapter for the shotgun threaded brushes. The ball bearing handle does make the difference.
Just my two cents.

I’m somehow rough on cleaning rods. Tired of paying money for them, guess that’s why I’m in the clean only as necessary camp. If guys are getting 25 years out of a Dewey I need ti try one then.

The Boretech one I got a couple years ago is my favorite to date but still has some issues. I like it since I use their cleaners and it doesn’t react.

I had a carbon fiber Tipton one. It cracked/splintered the first time I used it.
I have a Pro shot, it got bent after a few uses. It was great in my .22 cal barrels but the .264 was too much I guess.
I have a Montana Extreme that the coating is coming off of after 3 or 4 uses. It’s like it is spray painted on and the chemical is just eating it.

Since I bought the first Dewey, I haven't found a reason to buy another brand.

I have the Boretech and the Dewey. I always reach for the Boretech. It has a non reacting metal tip (Dewey has a brass tip that reacts to copper solvent and leaves blue/green residue on patches). Also my Dewey has to have an adapter (also brass) in order to use bore brushes and jags. It seems the Dewey has a (male) threaded tip, not a threaded hole so you can't screw the typical accessories into without the adapter. I guess you can buy Dewey accessories that will work with it, but all the accessories I have that all male threads.

i have a pair of .22 dewy rods that are 25 years old going strong.

i have 3 bore tecs with one that is losing the coating. it was replaced by bore tec because it lost the coating. i like the bore tec because you can get a 6mm rod and a .22 rod. the thicker rod has a place on occasion [ like a 6.5 bore].

also have a .22 pro shot and a .30 pro shot. never had a problem with them. wipe them down and you should have no troubles.

the tipton carbon is too flexible.

you can buy female jags to fit a dewy.

Whatever rod u pick in addition the boretech action rod kit has its place as well in process…PMA bore guide is a great addition also if your using a cheaper universal. Good luck

I almost changed from bare stainless rods to coated rods when they became popular, but a bore scope on a shot out barrel showed there weren’t even minor scratches on the lands that have been cleaned a lot, so I never felt the need to change after that. There’s nothing wrong with coated rods if they bring joy to someone’s heart so it’s hard to go wrong.
