Favorite bird to hunt

I hunted waterfowl for more than 50 years until it was my time to stop. I have taken my share. Have always enjoyed hunting pheasant but had to head west for better opportunities. Now I reside in MT where there are a few long tails, Huns and the occasional quail. We spent 20 years in SW New Mexico where I hunted Gambels and Scaled quail. Both a real thrill to hunt. Best part of bird hunting is the dogs that I have had over the years. Mostly labradors, but a couple of Chessies. All good dogs. Now, as I approach 80 my upland bird hunting is slowing. I have switched to a Turkish made 28 gauge O/U because the weight is minimal. Still get some grouse, Huns and pheasant. I am pleased overall. MTG

Growing up in South Alabama, I loved turkey hunting, and it was pretty hard as lots of people did it.

Now I lived in North Idaho and I don't think I've met a person yet that turkey hunts.
The turkeys are also way less wary that Bama birds, my 8 year old has called in a tom just yelping with her mouth.

Where did you hunt in AL? I can attest to the difficulty down here.

Grew up in Crenshaw County and hunted there and Coffee county.

Pretty country over there. I’m more SW but have some good row crop buddies in that area. Do a good bit of hunting around there too.

It would probably be turkeys for us. Around here it seems like you either love turkey hunting, or you just haven’t been yet.
