Family trip to CO

I am finally taking a family trip out to CO in May. The trip is for a wedding but we are going to make about a week long trip of it. It will be myself, wife and our 2 kids who will be 7 and 5 at the time of the trip. We are looking for top hits to do while we are there, our family is very active and currently do a lot of hiking and biking here in VA. will probably also spend a day in CO springs to see a family member. What should we be checking out?

Oops, wedding is in Bailey. We'll be flying in and renting a car (I think). Ideally we can spend most of our time around where the wedding is so we don't need to spend too $$ on different places to stay

funny timing, just booked flights 10 days in June, gong Denver, 6 nights in Vail (not rich just get free employee nights hah), then Moab to top it with my wife and 5 yo. looking forward to it. Gonna bring some glass and hopefully can spot some sheep or wildlife in Vail. any WKRs in Vail area feel free to reach out if you have any tips.

If you're in The Springs, definitely check out Garden of The Gods.

I love old buildings, so The Broadmoor is cool. They offer tours, but we just walked around a bit and had a drink at the bar.

Should make a drive down from Bailey to Buena Vista then to the Great Sand Dunes. The river should still be running in May. It's a fun place to spend the day.

https://gardenofgods.com/ is a really neat park in Co Springs and good for kids (good for a couple hours entertainment)

Royal Gorge is 1.5 hours south

Rocky Mountain Nat Park is only 3 hours away and offers a multitude of hiking and sight seeing. I've been to several dozen Nat Parks and RMNP is right up there with the best our country has to offer. Swing wide to the west and avoid Denver traffic. The road from Golden to Nederland to Allenspark to Estes Park is a beautiful drive.

It's been a decade or so, but spent 3 or 4 nights in Estes park with young kids. RMNP was great and spent most of our time there. Family in Carbondale now, so getting to know that Glenwood springs/snowmass area. So many great places to explore in summer.

Glenwood Caverns, Glenwood Springs. Hike up to Hanging Lake just east of GS. Look it up. Will need an entry permit for that so apply early.

I grew up at TinyTown.....

If ya get down to the Springs, make the kids run up and down the Manitou Incline a few times. They'll sleep good that night.....grin

My kids are that age and love the various dinosaur exhibits throughout the state. Probably going to still be snowy up in mountains. Arkansas river valley is my favorite place to explore and check out (BV).

Colorado Springs has a lot to do with kids that also doesn’t take a full day commitment.

All that to say, if you’re in Bailey, poking around Breck should keep you busy for a bit, but depending on weather could be hit or miss.
