Eyepiece, on or off?

So I went big and bought a Zeiss Diascope 85. Its quite an investment and i want it to last forever. I was wondering if you guys leave the eyepiece attached to your spotter when packing it or take it off every time you store it. Seems like its fine to leave it on, but... I do Not want to hurt this thing!

Leave it on. Every time you change it, there is another chance for dust, debris, or moisture to get in there.

I have left the eye piece on my swaro since I bought it and had no issues. I do this for the same reason as Bitteroot Bulls mentioned and it is that much easier to misplace the eye piece when it is not attached.
