Extreme Spread over 100fps Vor-tx TTSX ammo.

Got the chrono out and after measuring 10 shots (Howa 1500 in 300 win shooting 150 gr TTSX), (cooled after every 3) I had an extreme spread of 131fps and a standard deviation of 37.... this seems super high compared to the last out the box ammo I measured ( the now discontinued hornady GMX superperformance had an ES of 18fps)... Anyone else measure their ES for this ammo/manufacturer? Is this a problem for extending the range to 500-600yds? Any comments on what an acceptable ES should look like? Thanks

First thing I would check is to make sure your chronograph isn't giving you any funny business. How far from the muzzle is it you?

A couple weekends ago I shot various ammo, here are the results:

1. Swift Scirocco 180gr, Vel: 3014, ES: 50
2. Barnes TTTS 165gr, Vel: 3226, ES: 59
3. Remington Corelokt 180gr, Vel: 2909, ES: 70
4. Norma Bondstrike 180gr, Vel: 2958, ES: 52
5. Federal Powershock 180gr, Vel: 2923, ES: 63
6. Winchester Supreme Elite 180gr, Vel: 3015, ES: 70

IMO, the numbers above aren't good. If you truly have a triple digit ES, I would look else where. With that bullet at 600 yards, ES of 130fps could shift your POI 6-7".

Here are numbers from a week and a half ago.

Took a shot at the bullseye @ 100 yards, wrote the velocity down, took a shoot at the bullseye @ 100, wrote the velocity down, took a shot at the bullseye @ 100 yards, and wrote the velocity down. Repeated for each rifle.

Note: I used the same box of Precision Hunter with two different 6.5 CMs.

I’ve seen several boxes of Barnes Vortx factory ammo with dramatically inconsistent neck tension. So much so that you could twist the bullets around in the neck with your fingers on some of them. I’d expect some serious ES with those . I’ve also seen some with what appear to be different primers, in the same box too.
