Extended Tube

In preparations for the upcoming snow goose hunting, I am looking for some suggestions for an extended tube for my Beretta a400 Extreme Plus. Any suggestions? My gun is in optifade marsh, does anyone make an extended tube to match?

For the money a carlsons creamator is hard to beat, pattern master gets the hype and seems well deserved. I have a kicks high flyer in Mod. which is a solid tube.

I would pattern the factory chokes you may be surprised, my IM choke is killer with steel.

Keep in mind the shot size you will be using, it will change choke selection, larger shot sizes generally like a more open choke. Not sure about any camo versions?

That Kicks sure does look good sticking out of the barrel.

Number 1s or bb are good snow goose loads.

Thanks for that info! I have never really worried much about tubes before. I need to do a lot of digging to figure out which one I want to buy. Any suggestions for an extended magazine tube?

Yeah choke tubes are a slippery slope, 5 identical guns and they can all like a different choke and load. I would hit the pattern board first. I spent a pile of money on tubes years ago chasing the best patterns for turkeys. Never really messed with em much for wing shooting, which I learned is a mistake in regards to just checking patterns and different loads.

I had some stellar snow goose shoots in Canada, plugged gun though only 3 rds, they decoyed well up there which is much tougher to do late season down here, I loaded a number 2 followed by a number 1 and then a BB. Not necessary but effective. Hope you have ammo, tough to find!


Have not messed with mag tube extensions much, do you really need more than 5 shots? I mean most guys struggle with the first shot, what good is the tenth one gonna do? I do know Briley makes extended tubes and are reputable company.

I have a pattern master code black and it does well in my 28” franchi. Buddy shoots brileys and he has really good patterns also. I want to try rob Robert’s chokes as I have heard good stuff about them

I have a Nordic Components +8 tube on my SBE 2, there are a few different manufacturers out there that offer extension tubes, but Nordic has a good reputation. In my opinion, you don't need more than 4 or 5 shots at a flock of snow geese, but I hunt alone quite a bit and like not having to scramble for shells if I have cripples or a dumb one that circles back. As for the camo matching, I had mine dipped to match my gun's camo pattern.

Are you worried about the pattern it throws or the color of the tube?

Depending on what the speed of the load is, the wad, and size of the pellets will play into how much constriction to use.


When I feel like I need an aftermarket choke, I like Trulock. But most guns anymore come with decent chokes for waterfowl hunting. It's specialized stuff that you might want an aftermarket for. Turkey, TSS, Buckshot, etc.

With anything BB's to #2's I'd start with a factory improved cylinder, then try a modified. If using a spreader wad, like Black cloud, you might just want a skeet tube.

Another one for the Carlson Creamator choke. I’ve got the long and mid range. I use the mid range 95% of the time, but if the birds are working that extra 10 yards out I’ll switch to the long.

Thanks for all the replies! To clarify, I don't care about the camo pattern on the choke. I was referring to the magazine extension as the extended tube, I would like that to match, but know that it is not necessary.

I read extended tube and took it to mean choke tube.
