Experience with Leica Geovid 10x42 R binoculars, looking to purchase and would like pros and cons.

I love mine. Easy to carry all the time in my SG carrier, excellent FOV and clarity, absolutely no issues with the laser.

Pros: Glass is good enough that as a hunter, you probably won't ever need/want anything better. Price point is good for great glass in a rangefinder combo.

Cons: Bulky. Delay waiting for EHR or angle.

For a hunter than only cares about a LOS range and wants glass quality similar to Swarovski SLC, I think they are a great option. For 95% of real hunting scenarios, they may be the best value in optics.

(My experience is with an 8x42).

I had 2700 HD-R and glass fov depth of field etc awesome. Angle compensation super inaccurate and over compensated big time so kept it just a range finder. They fall apart ranging in weather compared to my new main ride sig kilo 6k 8x32, but the geovid had pretty much same fov but at 10x! If you mostly Mpbr kill anyway and not too worried about shat weather and ranging then tough to beat Leica. They ranged a long way out in normal conditions. Antelope at 1000 no prob.

I'm not sure if you are looking for the rangefinder combo, but after owning and using mine for several years I would never buy another without the combo.

Pros: price, good glass, solid laser that works in the cold. A great overall value imo if you don't want ballistics.

Cons: bulky, laser range can be limited in rainy conditions, not ideal tripod mounting options.

Love mine. They've never let me down other than couldn't range a bull at 50 yards in thick fog. Luckily I guessed right and got him. As far as tripod mounting, the aziak adapter works perfectly and weighs nothing. Mine don't have angle comp or ballistic calculations but I don't miss that.

And do test your angle compensation! For those who have that feature. If you got a hill near house it’s not hard to do, find about 400’ elevation and 1000 yards and see what’s up. Between Google maps and everything else you have you can get elevation between two points then online calculators to give the true horizontal, basically triangle calculators. Mine was WAAAAAAY off. I can work with a Leica geovid bino or handheld no sweat but maybe I was sample of 1 but I would just take the glass and the range thanks. (When it comes to Leica)

Glass is very good for the price. Rangefinder is acceptable but not great. They are heavy as shit. I also carry an old gunwerks rangefinder with the different modes because they don't range through brush or precipitation well. Even with the complaints, I am very happy with mine.

I also love mine. I was on a hunt with a guy who had the 10x42. I had Swaro EL 10x42 so I did a side by side. When I got home I sold my Swaros and picked up the Geovid R here on Rokslide.

Battery cover on mine broke rendering them useless. Leica sent me a new one but then they wouldn’t range anything in the snow. Sent them in and they sent me a new pair cuz they couldn’t fix the first ones or something. I sold them. They are useless to me if they don’t work with snow. Glass was great though.

@Q_Sertorius or @mtnwrunner either of you guys had any issues in fog/mist? My 10x42's seem to struggle with it compared to the gunwerks RF options.

edit: just noticed @SouthPaw mentioned some struggles in rainy conditions, which seems to track with my experiences.

I haven’t had any issues with it in those conditions. I don’t have anything with which to compare them except regular binoculars and a Leupold rangefinder.

Edit - I have used it without issues in rain to 600. And I used it on a cloudy day in the snow to 900. I just haven’t had a lot of bad weather to try them out. Generally, if I can see the animal, I can get a range.

When I got a sig kilo 6k compact a compared to mine in good snowfall and was hitting a building near house at 585-600 with the sig and the Leica was struggling to find anything past 125. They both could do antelope at 1000 in the sun though but no snow. Didn’t test them too much, I sold the geovids, wanted ballistics, kept sig. glass obviously a different league with the Leica.

Thanks everyone for your feedback, I ordered the Leica Geovid's and will post back shortly my experiences with them.
