Exo packs for shorter torsos

My torso is right at 18". Not exactly short, but short enough that I've had issues with packs with an unflexible pre-curved frame. The stone glacier x-curve doesn't fit me, because the curve seems to be designed for a longer-torsoed individual.

The shape on the K4 frame looks similar to the X-curve, which causes me to have concerns. Do any of you with 18" or shorter torsos have experience using the K4 frame?

You can always swap out the carbon stays it comes with for aluminum ones that you can shape to match the curvature of your spine. Just make sure to get 7075-grade aluminum for the right amount of strength and flex.

I have run both the EXS and “normal” short frame without issues. I thought going conservative with the EXS might be better, but it didn’t give me quite the angle on the load lifters that I wanted. The short is perfect- especially with loads.

Like the other poster referenced, you can cut the stays down to just about any size you want or need to get the right fit.

I’d imagine you have some other specific questions. Feel free to message me your number and I’d be happy to call and try to help answer those based on my experience.

I would just contact exo if you haven’t, they genuinely want you to get something that fits your needs, not sell a pack. They will get you set up right.

I don't have your issue with the short torso, but as stated the EXS or Small would suite your needs. The guys at EXO will point you in the right direction and also have the 30 day return policy if the pack doesn't fit you. That will allow you to get the frame load it up and go on some training hikes. As a word of warning the lumbar pad is stiff initially, but does break in slightly over time for a perfect fit and feel.

I have an 18 inch torso and a k4 with no issues. You can cut the carbon stays but that was unnecessary for me.

The k4 frame is not like the xcurve. The xcurve actually bends back past vertical over your shoulders towards your head. The k4 is vertical.

I’m 19” or so and have had no issues with the 23.5” frame, although I could run a 25” no problem - that’s what’s great about having a system with various stay lengths, you don’t have to deal with stays in the back of your head.
