Are the Exo pack lids able to be removed and used as a small day pack or fanny pack?

The lid can be removed, but you'd have to come up with your own shoulder/waist straps to use it for that purpose. It wouldn't be that hard to do using the existing buckles but I'm not sure how it would ride since it wasn't really designed for that use.

The lid is removable but its not designed with extra straps / buckles to make that happen. Really our philosophy is you should always have the pack on your back unless its the last few hundred yards of a stalk or something. We want you to be able to start packing meat immediately and not have to make a trip back somewhere to get the frame, just a lot of wasted energy doing that.

Yeah we sent them out to everyone who ordered a pack from March - September last year as a precaution. Only a very small number of packs have actually worn through but we wanted to be pro-active in providing a fix and staying ahead of any further issues.

Is this only for the 2015 model? Just wondering since I have the 2014 model and have not received any.

Yes and only a specific belt that was sewn incorrectly. There is only a small amount of them out there we just don't know who has them and who doesn't so we sent the caps to everyone when one of those belts could have been shipped just to be safe.

I'm not sure if there are any others out there experiencing this but my 2015 3500 pack has developed a loud "squeeking" sound when walking with it on. I can't quite figure out what is causing it. It's not a high pitched squeek but a lower pitched squeek with every step. It's irritating while I am training with it on, but more importantly I'm concerned about so much noise while hunting. Have any others had this issue? Any ideas on how to eliminate it?

A couple things I have come across, sometimes its just plain a pack being really dirty with dried / caked on blood. Just getting the pack washed up and clean should help: http://exomountaingear.com/cleaning-your-exo-mountain-gear-pack/

What color do you have?

Hey Steve, mine is of the multicam fabric. It's only been used for training purposes as of yet so it's really clean. I'm hoping to get some blood on it this fall though :) It's making quite a loud "squeek" that seems to have grown in volume over the past couple weeks.

Just wondering if a Kuiu Hip Belt pouch will fit? I like the Exo pouch much better, but didn't want to spend the extra immediately since I already have the Kuiu pouch. Thanks!

Does the 5500 lose any functionality as a daypack when cinched down? (As in having to undo a bunch of straps to access you gear?)
I would use it in "daypack mode" most of the time, and could always haul a dry bag between the frame and bag on the 3500.
