Hey Steve, do the belts for sale on the website come with the lumbar pad attached? It looks like it's the belt and lumbar pad in the picture. I'm trying to retrofit a better belt/lumbar pad onto an old pack and this may be the easiest replacement if it has the lumbar pad.

Also, if the pad is attached, what does the back of the belt look like? Is there one big sleeve that the frame slides into or is it two individual sleeves?

Give me a call tomorrow and I can email some pics. The lumbar pad is sewn into the Frame panel so its just the belt that we ship from the website.

Is the meat shelf accessory needed for hauling elk qtr's, or does this pack come with a true load shelf as stated in the online description.

The meat shelf is an accessory to help keep the weight up nice and high so it carries as good as possible, really ideal for boned-out meat. In general the higher you can keep the weight, so its transferring straight down into your hips and not pulling down, the better.

It is not needed though in order to carry Elk quarters in the load shelf area, the bag and frame panel form a natural wedge which carries quarters really well.

I have a 3500 and am running a Kuiu medium pack cover... fits great... compact but has plenty of expansion room.

Judging by their sizing, I'm guessing a Large may be what you want, tho a medium would prolly fit a decent sized load.

Took delivery of my 5500 last Fri. and It's everything people were saying it was. I'm very surprised how small this thing can be made by cinching the straps and tucking them behind the bag. With the side zipper this thing will be great as a day pack from spike camp. I do wish it came with a couple small pockets but no biggie.

I don't like to pimp other peoples product too much but I must say this is well done guys.

Quick question on the meat shelf. The clips with the slot in them to allow them to be hooked onto the frame loops... is there a easy way to clip them on? I have to wrestle with them quite a bit to get the whole loop to hook on.

They are a pain in the butt to get on, once they are on there though just leave them on and to remove the meat shelf just un-thread the webbing.

Exo 5500 worked well on the hunt this year. Pulled a heavy haul, and didnt have any pack issues what so ever. Meat shelf handled well, long pockets on the sides worked great with the spotter, tripod and tent poles. Hip belt kept most of the weight off the hips. Load lifters are good, overall an awesome pack.

Used my 3500 for the first time with some weight today (65LBS) and it did a great job. HAd to put up a feeder on public land and carried 50lb bag of corn and other stuff. BUt now I know what yall mean about the belt size. I was told to get a med but with the weight and snugged, it hit the end. Couldn't tighten anymore. Im a 33-34 waist and sort of in between sizes. Looks like I'm going to need a small belt. BUmmed!! No money either. Oh well. Other then that, the pack was great.

Did a quick scouting trip with the EXO on Friday night-----packed up into a basin where I will be hunting. Took a 10 pound 4 person tent and stashed it so that my buddy can use it during archery season and i'll be up there for the long range season.
I won't be doing that again....................but the pack did great as usual.

Well, he is a good friend and I just strapped it on the outside using the compression straps. That is one thing that I really like about this pack is that you can strap and carry just about anything on it.
