I can’t justify shelling out $700 for a new pack when my old k2 is still going strong, but I would be willing to spend $50 to upgrade to a k3 hip belt if it means more comfort. For those of you who have used both the k2 and k3, do you think the k3 is that much better?

For me personally it was an upgrade, but was not a huge upgrade. The fit and feel was better then the K2 and over time and testing it did hold better on me under heavy load then the k2. IMO it was worth the $50.

I loved the fit of my K2- it just didn’t give me enough load lift to keep a better weight distribution off my shoulders and on to my hips. If you have that problem- the K4 at 26” is the bees knees. If you get plenty of lift at 25” there would be no reason to upgrade yet unless you want to continue to support an awesome pack maker .

It was not a huge difference between the two belts for me. The swap to the dense back foam in the K3 was a noticeable improvement.

For me the K3 was a net gain over K2. Noticeable, but not game changing. I say net gain because I loved the black, grippy fabric they used on the K2 lumbar pad, but they did away with that starting with K3. Having used the K2, K3, and K4, that is the one thing I wish they had not changed. For me the newer lumbar fabric is just not as grippy. That being said, as a whole the K3 belt was more stable and supportive across all weight ranges, but it was most noticeable and beneficial on pack outs. Given the choice, I would happily spend $50 to upgrade to a K3 belt.
