Whats the best way to strap 2 quarters to there frame? I struggled with this while trying to hauling 2 cow elk quarters a couple weeks ago. I realize most people have upgraded to the new models but im curious if anyone has any tips? I hauled out my wife's deer this year and didnt have near the issues.

What issues were you having? which straps were you trying to use frame or bag or both?

@svivian I had the 2 straps on the frame and then tried creating the V with the pack. I just wasnt ever able to get that 2nd quarter pinched up very good, it seemed to be sloppy with movement.

Without seeing how you were strapping I’m not sure. I’ve done a front quarter, rear quarter and scrap meat several times with my k2 with cow elk. I will say the new frames have longer straps which do a better job since I can criss cross the buckles. You might need to have one quarter inverted so that you don’t have all the bulk in one spot.

I hauled a rear quarter and backstraps/loins/ some neck meat in another bag and made an x with the load shelf straps used the bag compression straps to snug it up a little extra. Didn't seem to move but 2 quarters may be a different story.

I’ve done that, but not with an Exo. With my SG. Cow elk, hind on first meat down, leg up. Front on second leg down, scapula up. They nested together well. Distributed weight up and down and didn’t have as much weight way out behind me.

@svivian do/did you clean your pack often? I never clean my pack and while thinking about it, it was a pain in the *ss trying to loosen and tighten my straps. Im sure from old blood and dirt. It sounds dumb but it was a struggle to tighten my pack plus it was pretty cold as well. Maybe I had it right and couldn't tighten them like I should have.

I wash mine once or twice a year

I still use the crib load panel with my K2.

Not sure if I’ve done 2 quarters, but a hind quarter and the back straps/ loose meat can get a little squirrely and I’m still able to cinch it all down and carry it without issue.

I have K2, main thing I have found is get the bulk of it up high so it's "tapered" down at the bottom, and then cinch it down SUPER tight with the load straps, then when pulling up the bag suck down all the compression straps as tight as possible...if you have a lot of gear in your bag then it gets more difficult imo

@sandhillhunter I picked one of load panels in the classifieds awhile back and forgot I even bought one. Ill have to see if I can find it. Does it help alot compared to just the straps?

I mainly bought the crib panel for rucking and training with sandbags.

But since I have it, I take it with me for pack outs. So, I haven’t packed anything without it.

I think it helps since you can loosen the bag further away from the frame while the crib keeps the game bags from slipping out the bottom.

I just got a k2 hauled a hind out with just the crib on and it worked really well, I was able to ditch the bag and go in with just frame and crib.
