Haven't seen one of these shared so I figured I'd give making one a try. I'd love some constructive feedback as I'm no expert, call this a beta version but I think it will be very helpful for my needs and hopefully someone else gets some benefit from my struggles.
My use case, my main hunting partner shoots in moa and isnt ready to sell his scope collection and make the jump to mils yet. We both have RF binos with a built in solver and on there own they work great.
The issue has been if one of us calls a range in yards for the other shooter, without having a cheat sheet we are left with our memory of drops (admittedly easier with mil) or having to pull our own binos out to get a solution which takes to much valuble time in hunting situations when trying to set up a shot and kill quickly. I also always want a backup in case my bino solver doesn't work in the feild.
I made this excell sheet with not only a drop and drift chart, but also a mils/ yardage to inch conversion for use ranging or judging with the reticle. In it I highlighted 18" and 36" at various yardages as they translate well to the animal body sizes I hunt and are easy to approximate. I.e back to brisket, shoulder height, length of torso, length of coyote ect.
For Drops I highlight whole and half mil values for quick reference as well as the ranges they land on. I also referenced what yardage a .5 mil dial is "zerod" as I often walk around with that dialed in open country for those quick sub 300 shots when dialing can take up valuble time and mental focus.
For wind I already know my gun is a 7mph gun with this load so I put full value wind holds for 5,10, and 15 mph. I use a 10" square gong for practise and use 10" as my vital zone for animals when thinking hit probabilities, because of this I highlighted all wind holds that require 10" or more hold (ie holding off plate or vitals) in orange as a quick reference/ reminder and also a way to quickley judge if its a shot I am comfortable taking quickley on game.
If anyone has any suggestions to improve this system I'd be happy to hear them, and if anyone would like to use/ modify this spreadsheet please send me a DM and I'll email you the file so you can plug in your own drop and drift data or modify however you'd like. I've scaled the card to fit nicely on the but stock and plan to get it made by a decal shop to slap on there.
