We all know about packing layers, binos, food, and all of our hunting gadgets, but what do you bring with in your pack that is a little unconventional? Something that you've discovered over the years that is easy to bring but makes a big difference in the field.

I carry a gambrel... my back gets stiff bending over.

Sitting pad. Good for more than just sitting. Clean spot to stand if you need to remove/change footwear. Divide/organize/pad gear in your pack. Splinting a broken limb.

When it’s all over and all that gear is put away other than meat and antlers all we have is pictures. I carry a tiny little gadget called a Clip Shot. I take great pics if I’m alone or if I have a partner we can both get in the picture. Cheap, lightweight and takes no space but priceless.

Some great ideas! Definitely will be packing some field wipes and a glassing pad!

External battery charger for my phone along with ear buds. I like to listen to audiobooks on the long sits.

Spend your money on experience before you spend it on fancy gear.

This would be super handy for smaller game. I'm preparing for my first back country elk hunt, so this wouldn't really work for this trip.

An audio book is a great idea! I haven't really considered bringing headphones before. The hours spent glassing are bound to get a little monotonous.

I have 15+ years whitetail hunting, but have never gone on a backpack Western hunt. There is only so much you can do to prep for western hunting while living in FL.

Some blaze orange tape wrapped around a .44 mag case. I use it to mark the site/route if I have to go back to the truck with a partial load, etc.

Fleece head band. A perfect comfort add for a headlamp band. In the morning and evening it is great wind breaker just dropped on the neck. I use this as one of my key temp management tools while hunting, hiking etc.

The balaclava is also one of my favorite pcs

A shemagh. Great for temperature regulation in extreme hot or cold, also works for: concealment/shape disruption, various emergency medical uses, a towel if I rinse off in a stream, an elbow pad for a prone shot, and more. I can usually bring a lighter sleeping bag if I wear it at night—and I’ve noticed I’m not as likely to wake up with a crick in my neck.

I have ten feet of gorilla tape wrapped around my trekking pole near the handle.
