I have about 43 million dollars in reeds because they tend to soften the tape waaaaay too soon. The latex is fine, but the tape is junk.

Anyone ever run silicone or aquaflex.....etc on the tape to make it not suck?

Perhaps my saliva is just what the doctor ordered for digesting tape....dunno but looking for experience.

It's a consumable product. When mine get water logged, i switch out. I usually go through 2-3 a day and swap the calls out to dry. My personal plan is to always have 4 diaphragms to rotate through the day.

If the tape is too rigid, it won't seal. So it has to be flexible. I chew the tape to make it more flexible yet. But by the end of season (several weeks) I'm on at least my second set of 4 calls with a third rotation in packages at the truck.

My reeds always loosen way before the tape is unserviceable, but again, i swap out throughout the day.

I just can't leave mine in my mouth. If I am in an active calling situation, then it's in. Otherwise, I tuck into a pocket somewhere and let it dry.

If I get them dry and store them in a place where they are protected, then they last until the next season. I used one from last year to call a bull in earlier this week.

I thinned some silicone in white gas and brushed the tape. I did a dozen and it looks like all came out about the same. Nearly as flexible as new and not soaking any saliva.
