Hunt Update
1/8/21 - looked at 250+ elk and 12 bulls in the AM, and killed a young 7x7 in the afternoon at 550 yards. Full report coming. Game is thriving in SW Wyoming.....awesome to see first hand!
Unique 1” devil point on each G1/G2.....pretty cool.
Brother’s bull is the heavy 6x6, killed in early December on the same hunt.
Afternoon Update (1/7/21) - split from my brother to each cover some new ground....each glassed up some new bulls (brother saw 11, I only saw 2), but nothing worth going after yet. Looking at some more ground in the morning....trying to find the right bull. Being patient, hope it pays off. No shortage of bulls though, so just need to cover ground and turn up the right one. Hear stories of a cool club bull lurking around.....6 on one side and a sword with bowling ball club on the other. I love me some character, and if I turn him up, may not be able to pass him up.
First Morning (1/7/21) - got to our spot at first light. Bumped a herd of 50 (all cows and one 280” bull, so no worries......pulled out the glass and started looking at all the benches. Bingo, found a bachelor group of 22 bulls......all but 3 were 5x5 or smaller. One tall, thick, dark horned 6x6......bad spot for us to make a stalk so watched them for 25 mins before they bedded in Aspen. Have a game plan for this evening to get a better look. Tons and tons of elk on these wintering grounds.
I have a LE late season tag in So. WY that ends 1/31/21......heading there on Wednesday, to start hunting on Thursday, Jan 9. Hopefully starting 2021 with a bang. Will try to post updates daily!
