Does North American Elk: Ecology and Management cover food in a way that a reader could learn and better identify likely food sources for a given season?
I often hunt during periods where the grasses are transitioning at high elevations as the frost moves down and I’m never certain if grasses are still a good food source or if the elk have moved down a bit for tastier grass. Then, if not grass, what else would they find as a good food source.
Yes, it covers food sources. I would ask that question to the biologists in your hunting area. Habitat, food sources, elevation, drought and animal behavior differ in different areas. You should get more specific info from biologists that knows the specific area you intend to hunt.
