Elk of North America: Ecology and Management

Some of those biology books can be tough to find, they just aren’t produced in large quantities.

I have a book about Aoudad that was written by some New Mexico biologist back in 1962, I got it randomly on eBay, I talked to a fish and wildlife guy last time I was down that way, he said there are less that 20 copies of that book left and most of them are in libraries. He tried to buy it from me but I didn’t have it with me.

I have one. Edit* sold

It sounds like you have a buying option, but I wanted to post my experience for anyone else that sees this down the road.

I have the Wildlife Management Institute books for whitetail. pronghorn, mule deer/blacktail, and elk. The pronghorn and mule deer I bought new on Amazon for roughly $125 apiece. The other two I found used (slightly beat up) for about $65 each on eBay. There are decent deals on there for the books from time to time and I recommend checking regularly if getting a copy is a goal. I wouldn’t pay more than $125 for any of them.

All are super dense with lots of information to sift through. They are not for everyone and remind me of my college biology textbooks. I am definitely more knowledgeable and a better hunter having read them though.

I bought it when it first came out....and dumped it long ago.

Don't waste your time...it won't help you much in relation to hunting. I remember one comment that elk don't inhabit steep slopes....yeah, right, I see elk getting pushed onto steep slopes every year during archery seasons.

Thanks for the insight!
