Elk location

So there's a spot you were able to scout quite a few times in the summer. A lot of good sign and trails. Then you arrive and it's the second day without seeing much sign or hearing a bugle. And you've exhausted about all backup options. What do you do?

I don't know. What do you do? I'm planning my first hunt and this is what I fear.

I do not have much experience but to give up on the original plan and exhaust all backup options by day 2 indicates a flaw in the planning process of the hunt. I would do as AHP says and keep walking or, if you're totally convinced there are no elk within reasonable walking distance, I would pack out and drive to another location that looks appealing on the map and roll the dice so to speak. At the end of the day, elk or no elk, it sure beats working.

I agree Switchback270. Nice handle you got there...What time of year? What time of day? There are a lot of variables that could have happened. Stay the coarse and don't give up. Maybe get higher and do more glassing. Walk. Walk. glass. did I mention walk. That is what I'd do. The elk have to be somewhere, you just got to keep looking. And YES it is way better than working.....

The elk are either there or they aren't. If I'm not getting bugles, I'm moving. If they're there this time of year, I'll get responses.
