My father in law recently passed away and when going through his gear room I found his cache of elk ivories. I'd like to have something made my wife and my MIL. I see there are plenty of custom jewelry companies online that are recommended here, which I'm not opposed to, but wondering if there are any other types of gifts people have done with them? I'm not a big DIY craft guy so ideally would like to find some sort of professional service where I could send them the ivories and have it made by someone else.

I made my wife a necklace. Took it to a custom jewler and made a simple tear drop. I have to admit it was smaller than I was expecting. Cost about $300.

Next time I'm going to get earrings to match, those will probably be about $600.

I’ve lost more elk ivory than I can kill but still trying my hardest to keep up

Studio Pandora - Karahan Balli does really nice work and is a great guy. He is located here in Missoula Montana. I would contact them and go on their site. I think he has some of his creations shown.

I had Karahan make these earrings from one of my elk ivory sets using white gold and diamonds for my daughter. I also had another set of elk ivory earrings like this without the diamonds and using silver instead of gold. Gold is crazy expensive right now.

I think your idea using some of the elk ivories from elk your father-in-law killed and having them made into special items for your wife and her mom is a fantastic idea. There's a lot of sentimental value with a gift like that and each set of ivories is unique and no other set looks exactly like them. Great idea. Earrings are always great as are necklaces. A necklace and earrings together would also be outstanding.
