Might have to check a hard burned area like that this year… I was thinking it could be more of a rifle spot/ would need 5-6 years to come back but I might have to go take a look

We were avoiding it because we didn't think there was any food in there. Hunted adjacent drainages and then heard elk in there on our way out in the dark. Would have never messed with it otherwise. Was pretty surprised to find so many elk in there considering what the ground looks like.
Shhhhhhhhhhh

Got into some outskirt burn areas with water holes and decent bedding near by and it seems to be paying off. Sure seeing a lot of Elk. Have not connected yet, but sure is nice to be getting into them this thick.

Thanks guys!!

I have had success at an area without much pressure, that had burn a few years old, a really nice meadow, thick timber, and a water source. Not surprising! It does seem that they like to move into different kinds of areas at different times of the day. Also not surprising. Glad you are into them!

Was able to get close to 8-9 cows a huge 6x6 and a rag horn today. They were in a bad burn from last year. Bull could have cared less about my calling
