Elk in MI

Been applying for 17 years. Nothing. DNR likes to keep our herd around 1000/1200. The range is NELP (Atlanta/Hillman area) and a tad of the central northern part of the lower (right around Vanerbilt). From what I understand the Auto Insurance/Farm Bureau has their hands on keeping the number so low. No reason the Elk couldn't populate the Upper Peninsula also.

Little known fact is there are 500 Moose in the UP also, not including Isle Royale. And we used to have a Caribou population a ways back.

Great info. Super sad story about the woodland Caribou in the U.S.- apparently, the last of them are now officially gone from the Selkirk mountains in ID.

Yup over 1600 moose and population still rising on isle royal but they won't let us hunt...claim it would be a logistical nightmare.
