Elk in heavy recreational traffic areas

Over the years I have found the elk respond to the pressure by feeding where they wish at night and then bed just off the dense people traffic where they can watch. They tend to be very flexible and move accordingly to change in pressure.

Movement at night may be 3-5 miles, while their location during the day might be in your yard. I have seen deer bedded almost in my corral with the horses while the elk might be in the first patch of heavy jungle next to the road. They are pretty adaptable.

If elk are there, I wouldn't hesitate to hunt them. I killed one of my best bulls within a half mile of a cluster of multi-million dollar homes. Everyone else can keep hammering into the backcountry. I have no shame in filling tags in easy locations. Lol

Hunt overlooked areas. Here’s a few pics, this cam can be seen from the road. Guaranteed draw unit for residents, I chased a bull right past this cam and killed him the next day 1/4 mile away. I normally get a couple 300+ bulls on it each year and about 20 bulls each fall. I’ve gotten two 350+ bulls on it.
I have two other cams in a similar area that get hammered right next to the road. The bull in my avatar was about 30 yards off of a main road in a pond. Most people drive right past this area because it’s surrounded by drivable roads.

I've seen more bulls where I parked than anywhere else. They know how long it takes to disappear. By 9/15 in my area it's all about finding where cows want to be.
