Seeing what hybrids people are carrying for elk.

My setup is an Arc 34 at about 67 pounds, 29” dl, going around 290 fps.

I have the Evolution Hyde but thinking they would be better on deer. Something about that hard opening front deploy makes me nervous when thinking of elk.

Was looking at the Speed Crosscut but wondering about that aluminum ferrule.

I’m pretty set on having a COC front blade instead of a chisel tip.

Anyone have one they love and have had great performance on elk?

Im probably going to play with the speeds. They look interesting, but its hard to leave the hydes and the wicked wound channels.

I have had good luck with hydes. The flight is great, penetration has been very good and the bulls have all died in sight. Blood trails were good tho not needed and started quick, and shots one one of the bulls was not perfect. Still watched him fall from massive trauma.

Based on your quoted stats I would think the hyde would serve you well from an energy standpoint provided your shot selection criteria takes your equipment limitations into account.

That’s the precursor to the Evolution Hyde. Made by the guy who invented the gravedigger.

Maybe I’m overthinking the opening mechanism. Just unsure of the over the top open and the energy needed to get it open.

Personally as a guide I highly recommend a fixed blade broadhead. The question was which hybrid and I will suggest a hybrid over a full mechanical all day, but I don’t ever like the risk of bad deployment, false deployment or broke. Blades.

Personally I’ve seen great results with dirtnap DRT, Ironwill, g5 montecs, and magnus. I mean there’s so many broadheads out there now a days I see them come through, typically the guys that harvest and use the same broadhead the next year show they like them and trust them.

I killed 2 bulls with the grim reaper pro mechanical 1 3/8". Exits on both of them. One at 50 and one at 67 yards. Was happy with the performance for sure.
Last bull I shot was 66 yards and had the same experience. Like a hot knife through butter. Such a great head.
