Elk hunting Weminuche

I am planning on hunting the western part of unit 75 this archery season and was wondering if anyone can give me any insight on the amount of pressure that area gets. I was thinking of taking the train in and getting off at the needleton stop then working my way north toward ten mile creek. There aren't any roads near by so that should keep numbers down a bit but I've never been in that area during hunting season and don't know how many hunters are around there in the second half of September. I'm sure there will be some hikers but I figure I can avoid them by getting off the trails. Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated.

pretty harsh replies. could be the 3 posts that turn guys off. seems it happens on most forums. hopefully i can bump you with this reply. i am on several forums and just found this one. out of all the ones im on, this is a nice all around forum. i am very interested in the weminuche. i will be going to colorado next year, so my investigating has started. good luck with the replies

I to am planning a trip to the Weminuche as well. I have watched your thread, and the lack of replies probably means it is a good place and others don't want to give up any secrets. From my research it is pretty rough. I would anticipate seeing quite a few hunters in the area. It really is a matter of doing as much scouting as you can. I plan on a summer scouting trip to get a better feel for things. Good luck, maybe we will see each other.

I hunt the weminuche, have the past 5 years. I hunt high, 12000 feet. There are elk in there for sure. Requires a lot of hiking and then locating. I can't see far in my area due to density of trees, so glassing isn't very effective. Be in shape, hard hiking. I hunt close to silver ton. Beautiful area. Good luck.

I spent a week or so in the weminuche last year. Ill be back. Plenty of deer and elk. Toughest country I've hunted, though.
