Elk hunting rain gear?

I second Sitka as the best. Although the lightweight kuiu rain gear held up well for me. The Kuiu pants lasted a few years of hard hunting. Sitka will be more spendy and a bit heavier but will last longer

I’ve had my Chugach for going on 7 years and it’s been great. I have used a LOT of rain gear over the years—rubber, breathable, oilskin, etc.

The Chugach is light enough that it’s almost always in my pack, and keeps me dry in some pretty serious wet weather.

Also a nice wind layer over puffy if it’s below zero…

I've had a Chugach jacket and a Kutana. The Kutana is definitely burlier, more durable and will resist water a bit longer. It of course comes at a weight penalty and is also a bit bulkier when stuffed in your pack.

I havent used it hunting yet, but i picked this up in ranger green for fall elk season

my criteria were lightweight, packable, 100% waterproof, quiet material, pit zips, stretch fabric and this checks all of those boxes. it had better specs than all comparable jackets from the big hunting brands and was quite a bit less expensive as well

I have the Sitka storm front which is basically the equivalent to today’s dewpoint pro by them. Love it. It’s somewhat rigid and doesn’t pack down super well but is bomb proof and keeps you dry in torrential stuff.
My friend has the dewpoint and I’m a little jealous by how it packs down to nothing but feels like a twig could put a hole in it. Also wouldn’t want that set in harsh rain.
So I bought the more versatile set

Take look at skre gear have had mine 6yrs just like new. Lifetime warranty too havnt needed for the rain gear but used for other things shipping been great no hassles

I’ve had great luck with Mont-Bell rain gear. 8 years on my current set. Was recommended to me by a couple AK sheep hunters. I get their heavier stuff and it works well for light brush and heavy rain. It goes fishing too. Was about 1/2 - 2/3 the cost of the main camo hunting brands.

I have been running the Arcteryx Beta AR for the past six years without issue. Excellent performance and no durability issues. The fabric is fairly loud, but masked when it is truly needed in poor weather.

Anyone have any suggestions for a poncho? I would rather just carry one piece and hunker down under it with my pack as well compared to having pants, a top and a pack cover

Helikon-Tex US Model Surplus Line Poncho

I got this one off Amazon.
4.7 stars from 1590 reviews it was around $50.
I have not worn it in the weather yet, but appears to be a solid choice especially for my usage.
Seems really well made and durable.
Never hunted Elk before or out west even, but for my style I will be able to throw this over me and my pack and be able to ride out the weather if I need to.

A place to start anyways….

I have a set of Sitka's Cloud Burst which is impenetrable, but i've always been concerned with it in tough brush. I just purchased their Dew Point Pro set to avoid that thinking but have not received them yet.

I have the chugach set and have it it for 8 years or so. Only issues I have had is catching barned wire fences. I've hikes my ass off in them through thick alders/willows....besides blood stains and general fading, no issues. Can't even tell you have them on if you get the correct size.

I'd recommend. I have no experience with the Kutana
