Trying for my last hurrah and one elk hunt. I have killed plenty of big whitetails but never got a chance for elk. I am 67 year old 100% disabled vet but can walk/wobble. One knee replaced and other in brace. Two bad ankles etc. I am my orthopedists retirement plan I think. Plus I live literally at sea level now so I am well aware of limitations at altitude. I plan to work the NC mountains some and spend at least 3 days locally to acclimate to altitude before the hunt. When in the service (24 years SOF) I spend my fair share of time in mountains all over the world so I know I have a gut check coming. Heart is excellant BP 70/100 and resting heart at 63 still.

Looking for an elk hunt and outfitter that I can work with for 2021. Leaning towards NM ranches as long as under $10k and chance at decent elk not record book. If I have the opportunity, I can make the shot for anything under 500 for sure.

Just as a suggestion, you may wish to check out Hunting With Heroes based in Wyoming. Dan (one of the founders) and Nelda live in the neighborhood across the way from me here outside Austin and I met them because my kids are playmates with their young grandchildren. They are good people and get a ton of disabled vets into the field each year largely on donated tags and private access where things can be a bit more controlled for situations like your own. Full disclosure I am not a vet, just try to help them out here and there whenever I can.

PM me if you would like me to put you in touch with Dan and Nelda directly. Season is upon us so they can be hard to get ahold of but I know Nelda watches email and the website religiously.

They are a great organization and I too would recc. contacting them. They have hosted hunts in our neck of the woods and while there is some elevation they do have some relatively easier terrain for elk hunting.

Missed this years time to apply for Hunting with Hero's but will apply next year. Plus they told me they wanted to start with antelope and maybe elk later. My ability to have a "later" is diminishing so still looking. Would love Wyoming, as I had an uncle who lived in Cody and I got to visit a bit.
