Hey I am looking for recommendations on good, easy to use elk calls. With so many on the market, I figured this group of hunters could provide good suggestions! Thanks in advance!

Can you use a diapraghm? If you are trying to learn, Bugling Bull's Mellow Yellow is one of the easiest ones to get good sounds out of. Great for cow mews, but you can also bugle with it.

You could also pick up an external reed call like a Primos Hiper Lip or Bugling Bull's Temptress.

Berry's Thunder Bugle with black reed and Primos Cow Girl are about as easy as it gets. The Temptress by BB sounds excellent.

The most comfortable call that fits your mouth and that you can get realistic sounds are the best for you. But, with all calls practice makes perfect :)

I have to say Bugling Bull game calls are my favorite. To me they are the most realistic calls out there.
Diaphragms- All Star, and Raging bull.
Open reed- The Temptress.
Tube- Bully Bull grunt tube.

These are available at the link below:

Some good recommendations so far but it really boils down to personal preference. You just have to experiment and find what works for you. I just keep trying new stuff all the time to see if something I like better comes along. The only diaframs I can use are the primos minis because I gag on everything else. I like the fighting cow call from Wayne Carlton and the temptress from bugling bull both real easy to use. I'm going to order a bully bull tube from elk101 and give it a try.

These are my personal picks as well. Great calls!

Phelps Game Calls:)

In all honesty though use whatever calls you are comfortable and confident in. Elk calls are kind of like boots as they are different for everyone. Everybody has a different shaped mouth, tongue, applies pressure different etc... So the only way to find out is to try them out (good thing they are cheap).

I used to have a Sceery cow call that worked well, but I lost it. I can't remember what I replaced it with, but I still prefer the Sceery.

I'm a novice but, I have to agree with the Bugler. I really like the Bugling Bull Game Calls. My favorite is the Select "A" Bull Calling System #114. It is a little large to carry around but, the call is realistic and easy to use. I also use a Hoochie Mama call (I have to confess I've only used it once) and it is good for specific situations when there are multiple bulls in an area or a single bull you are trying to lure. It too, is easy to use.

I just received my Phelps calls and I have to say that I am impressed! I'm hitting higher notes with ease where with other reeds I struggle a bit. CS is second to none too. Jason you just earned a customer for life.

I like Glacier Country calls. Troy is also very helpful if you have any questions or problems. He will talk to you on the phone, have you text or email him sounds and then send you back critique and tips on how to improve. His calls are open topped so not as easy to blow as the Bugling Bulls and Primos calls. The palate plate helps control the airflow you you don't have to. They work well but I prefer the sounds from an open top call. You can get more volume, a cleaner sound and have much more control over the tone and pitch.

I also agree with Phelps Game calls and Glacier Country Hunting calls. Both are great guys and they make a solid product. I have used all mentioned above and found these two manufactures to be in the top. It's not going to be long before you see them all over.

I think i will check on the Phelps calls. Ive always used the primos cow calls. I dont do much bugling. The primos umakadabullcrazy sounds really good i think. Also the primos lead cow n calf has been a great call for me over the years. Very easy to use. I even convinced a nice velvet muley buck to come closer to investigate, up until i stuck i an arrow in him! lol

Well Kenny, good to see you on Rokslide :)

I just joined up a couple days ago. Sounds like we will have a good variety of calls covered...I will be using several diaphragms (Bugling Bull- The Closer and the Mellow Yellow) with a Little Chuckler Tube.

I also have a Knight and Hale External reed call that is very easy to use and has great tones that you can try out.

Sometimes with calling...it can be more about attitude than tone :D

Best of Luck,
Jeff
