Elk Age Thread

We just shot a cow off a ranch last week, she was ear tagged. Fwp said she was 16.5 years old.
Only one one ivory left in her mouth.

It's interesting to see how some elk just have "it" and others don't. Area and genetics really do play a large roll as shown by some of the old rags posted and the stud 5 y.o.

I finally got my aging info back from from Utah DWR and it was 3 years old. I'm surprised. Fairly big with lots of mass for 3 years old. The body was really big too. I wish he would have been a couple years older!

My 2015 Utah LE bull state bio aged at 7.5, average body size for a mature northern Utah bull.IMG_1579.jpeg
My dad’s 2013 Utah bull, same unit, same general area as mine. State Bio also aged him at 7.5 but trail cam pics and first hand accounts from family and friends that had known about this bull prior put him at least 9.5 also had a body bigger than the 15 hand 1100lb mule that carried the meat out.

Some awesome results. And very encouraging to see how many of you are aging your animals.
