I made the switch from my old 270 to Tikka in 6.5cm. I have tried both the 140g eldm and 143eldx and both shoot well.

Which is more likely to have better terminal performance on deer size game, shots anywhere between 50 and 400 yards. Initially I had been thinking the Xs but it sure seems like people are getting great performance out of the Ms.

Is there any advantage of going with Xs or just roll with the 140 ELDMs and call it day.

Both are excellent and in nearly all cases you won’t be able to tell the difference terminally. I’d also choose whichever shoots better out of the gun. Or if you get enough kills, try both ;)

In general I personally prefer the Xs wound channels and performance especially the smaller in diameter you go, but that’s not taking anything away from the Ms, especially in the 100+ diameters.

Try the 147's also.

I do have a box of them to check grouping. Though honestly so far both the 140m and 143x group as well as I can shoot anyway. Assuming all 3 shoot equal is there any terminal performance advantage of any of them over the other?

in my area the Ms are cheaper by a few dollars and have a higher BC so i prefer those. i think the 140s are the sweet spot and you can push them a little faster than the 147s. I havent tried the 130's yet but im tempted to go buy some and see how they shoot.

I like a little more weight, BC should be a little higher I'd imagine as well.

Seems x works better in high velocity and m in lower. Just an observation.

What velocity ranges are you thinking for each? In reality I am much more commonly shooting with 200 yards than beyond it at game so I am mostly commonly going to be in the 2600-2400 range.

I run the 140 eldm’s out of my 6.5 creed. They have done good on game, and I can push them faster than the 143’s.

I have always liked the eldx better for all calibers. Haven’t shot much with the 6.5cm but, what I have shot hasn’t made it very far

Read this.

6.5 Terminal Performance Thread

We really shouldn't be seeing these types of threads started anymore with other huge threads about the 6, 6.5, 270, 7, 7-08, 30's terminal performance on game already on the forum.

You'll find everything you need in that thread
Seems as if a very specific question is a perfect place for a forum. I understand we all should read all 1000 pages of the .223 thread before being allowed to make a post (and apparently all 74 pages of the 6.5 thread), but I don't think he is going to 'clog up the internet' with a thread asking about specifically about a 143 and 140 grain Hornady bullet.
