Im looking at getting a pair of Swarovski El Range TA. Im stuck between 12x42 and 10x42. I hunt the Midwest mainly for whitetail but would also like something to take out west. Any input on which magnification woild be more beneficial?

I'd go 10x42. 10s will be great for the Midwest and nearly all Western hunting. They offer a better field of view and are less weight. I'd even consider an 8 power for your use case.

I went down this rabbit hole pretty deep. Spent lots of time behind them. If you are mostly Midwest hunting or anything other than say the west, go 10’s. But, the 12’s are spectacular in open country and I have zero issues taking them into heavy timber or close quarters. The added mag for really picking out detail even in close ranges is a huge plus. And I see almost no difference in light gathering. It’s very minimal.
