Easy way to shoot a traditional bow.

Nope, I will stick with the Asbell instinctive shooting. Look at your target, draw to a consistent anchor point and shoot. All that gap nonsense may work on paper but when the Thirty Pointer is 15 yards and your adrenalin is redlined I couldn't add 2+2! IMO

I do the same as described in the video. I set my bows up for a 25 yard PO and hold under (subconsciously) the same at any distance under that. I shot instinctive for over 20 years then gap (hard aim) for about 3 years to this that I also call gapstinctive. The only thing about the video that I don’t do is set a high nock height. I set the nock height where the bow wants to tune.

It's not nonsense. I have killed a lot of deer using this technique. How many 30 pointers have you shot?

I tried Asbell's method the first couple years of shooting trad bows and it never was accurate for me. I now see my point in the periphery of my vision and I just visualize the arrow's trajectory and when the visualized trajectory meets the target area I pull through a release. I do not in any way quantify the distance or have any set amount to hold over/under based upon some given distance to the target. I think it is closer to what Byron Ferguson described (Become The Arrow is a good book!) . Worked great for me for three decades. I think the process described in the video is a great way to start and get people at least hitting the target butt!

IMHO and based upon observations at the Missouri UBM Bow Jam the last two years, the best shooters are overwhelmingly those that come to anchor, lock in, and then release. I see many "instinctive" snap shooters and for the nmost part that never truly reach an anchor - their accuracy is very poor and they are often releasing 1-2" before their draw hand reaches their face. It may work for some, but there are other ways that are every bit as effective.

I started out shooting Fred Asbell's way back in the '80s when he came out with his first book. Sometimes I could shoot really good and sometimes not so good. If I practiced every day I could get pretty good. My hit rate has gone up immensely once I started hunting with this technique. It's just another Good way to shoot if somebody wants to try a different technique. Thanks for watching.

There’s nothing wrong with experimenting and trying new techniques. For a long time I’ve tried to find a shooting technique that would be the be all/end all, but over the years I’ve come to realize that all techniques have their pros and cons and there’s not one technique that works best for all situations. If you try more techniques you’ll have a better understanding of what works for you and what doesn’t. I’ve steered away from snap shooting instinctive because I wasn’t consistent with it. Gap shooting provided the best consistency but I had to use a rangefinder for every shot, which costed me several animals in the past. For me I’ve settled on shooting exactly the way Patriot2 described - lock in at anchor and visualize the arrow trajectory before release.

soooo glad when I started out I took some lessons with Tom Clum Sr and Joel Turner. Being able to actually anchor, transition to hold, and process the shot is a game changer compared snap shooting or the so called “ instinctive.” Which isn’t real, ask any one who does this for a living, you’re subconsciously referencing or gapping, you’re just lying to yourself is all.

Masters of the barebow is great when they take one of the best “ instinctive” shooters in the world, put him in a black room with a laser on the target. Pretty comical to say the least….

High anchor, 3 under, short 15-25 yard point on is hands down easiest for newbies to become deadly accurate and get their confidence up in this sport.

Great thing is we can all choice to shoot however we like!

There’s plenty of room to shoot with a vertical bow behind that decoy… speaking as someone that used to be an “instinctive” shooter.

What’s funny is I’m actually really good friends with Jared and he gaps haha. He always references the tip of his arrow but gaps on the riser at the bow.

Without realising it, I satrted doing something similar to what is being suggested. With short, fast arrows, and a slightly lower anchor, my point on was way too far out to be useful for hunting if I reference my arrow. I tied a fixed crawl onto my string to give myself a 20m point on, and then I satrted looking at my gaps inside 20m. I shot well, but once I got out hunting I found I just got inside 20m and held under a little bit and pulled through. I can also shoot out to 25-27m if I reference the tip of my springy rest.

I've tried to shoot 'pure instinctive' before and it was a disaster. Sure, I could practice and work at it maybe, but I don't have any confidence in it.When Tom Clum came down here and gave a clinic I was lucky enough to go, and he said some people can shoot instinctive OK, but a REALLY good gap shooter will always out shoot them.
