Easton Axis spine decision

Hey Rokslide, New here. Have a question about arrow spine. I am looking to buy some easton axis arrows, I have looked at easons chart and im right on the edge of 340 and 300. My current set up is pro defiant @ 65lbs and 27 DL. I am currently shooting a 340 fmj with no weight up front and 100g broadhead which tunes good out of my setup. I would like to get the axis and ad 50-75 up front and continue running 100gr broadhead. Which spine is right for this setup? Any help is appreciated.

I would say 300 if you are shooting a 28-29” arrow. I’d start with hot melt and the 75 grain insert. That way if you are underspined you can break off the insert down to 50 grain before you epoxy everything. Good luck

Im shooting a kudu 100gr right now, would yall bump up to the thicker 150gr broadhead and forget the insert or keep the 100gr and ad the 50gr insert?

How long are you arrows? I’m similar and went back and forth end ended up with this

triax, 65lbs, 26”dl
Arrow length, 26 carbon to carbon

340 match axis
50g brass insert
25g IW Collar

I bought the Q spine app and ran the numbers, and that’s where I ended up. Don’t remember exactly how it all worked out numbers wise but they fly great

My arrows are 27 3/4in but I could flex a little if that helps. I feel like ill be on the border of both a 340 and 300 but ive heard its better to be a little over spined than under spined. Im not sure how true that is though

You definitely want to be stiffer than the opposite. Shooting a 150 grain head gives you flexibility if you want to run a lighter head for other purposes. I think you need some pretty big fletching to run the 150 Kudu. There is alot of surface area there, but you get a really nice cut for sure. I saw a video of a guy dropping bombs at 100 with the Kudu 150 so it is capable.

I killed my only archery elk with 100 grain kudu. It did an excellent job. I would go with the 150 grain heads with aluminum insert. You should be fairly close in weight with the 150 grain head and aluminum insert compared to the 100 grain head and brass insert. If that’s true you can run both 100 grain heads and 150 grain heads.

If your gonna run the 150 heads you want the 300's. I'm a 27"dl I run the 300's with 50grain insert and 100 grain heads my arrows weigh 507g. 4 fletch nocturnal nock and 27.5" c2c I believe

My arrows are 28.5, 65# turbo bow, pulls at 67#, IBO 345. 340s with 75 up front, plus a 125 point was slightly underspined.

they shot well, but my groups at 40 and 50 were the as good as my 20, 30. Seemed like it took awhile for that arrow to stabilize with 200 up front. I'll be going to the 300 this season with a 50 grain brass insert. Puts me right around 510 with a BAR.

And yes, get the BAR, practice with field points and then put those on with broadheads and tune.

If you’re going to run the 125gr you could pair it with the new Easton 25gr 5mm aluminum half out for a few more grains up front. I’ve installed quite a few of these now and I actually like this one. Has great shaft alignment and it’s short enough to avoid getting tweaked easily.

I shoot 70lbs 27” draw. My axis 340’s with 50 grain insert and 125 grain head tune fine. Arrow is 26” carbon to carbon.

dont know how much you care about FOC but I’d run the numbers and make sure your where you want to be, likely you will be on the lower end of acceptable.

I will be in the 12%-13% FOC range. My setup right now is right at 8% which I know is not ideal but seems to fly good. I must admit I haven’t experimented with Different FOC much, and it would be nice to make the “perfect” arrow setup for me

Look, guys make too much of tweaking arrow spine. In a modern compound, I've never seen a situation for an over spined hunting arrow didn't tune.

Many times a under spined arrow won't tune-too whippy.

I've been shooting over spined hunting arrows for about 30 years in multiple bows- all tuned perfectly. Plus, why wouldn't you want a more durable arrow for hunting?
