Eastern Mt. Buck from my family’s ranch

Took this buck from a ground blind made with 1/2 of a round bale feeder and cattails from the waterhole I was set up on. I dug the pond with a farm tractor and 1/3 yard scraper under the supervision of my dad when I was in high school 50 years ago. It’s always had water in it even in the drought years.
I’m a lefty bow shooter. As a self challenge I spent the previous winter learning to shoot righty. I used a dual shelf Bear Grizzly made in either 1955 or 56. It was my first right hand kill of any animal.

Very cool! Who's ever heard of shooting a buck off of a water hole you dug that long ago with an antique bow shot with your non dominant side? Deserves some special mention in Pope and Young for sure!

Awesome! Most guys struggle shooting a goat with a compound bow and you did it without using your dominant hand!!!

Thanks for the kind comments all. Yup it was one of those experiences that kinda imprints on ones mind. Have forgotten the details of a few of my bow kills, but that was pretty special.

I didn’t quite get the pit to the depth the specs called for when I hit a coal vein. Figured I’d better quit and report in; dad said yup better quit while we’re ahead. I figure that’s why it’s always had water. Kinda like a spring. Here’s a pic of my blind. It got flooded last year so it is no more haha. Fun while it lasted. Killed 2 speedgoats and a whitetail doe out of it so I guess it was worth the effort.
