timber dumping into CRP with cut beans nearby. Sign was there, but the wind was never right, so I sat on it longer than I wanted to.
Finally got the right evening. Temps in the low 50s, thermals behaving. About 20 minutes before legal light I heard leaves crunching and knew it wasn’t just a doe.
Big 8-pointer stepped out at ~110 yards. He paused just long enough. Clean shot, short track, done deal.
He taped right around 165″ typical with good mass. Cool weather made recovery easy and the wait totally worth it.
Good reminder that patience usually wins.
