Holy bloody hell, I don’t remember anything as painful! They put me on penicillin, bleeding from the ear drum but no hole. I assumed the medicine would make the pain subside, but I’m 6 hours in and it hurts so bad I want to punch something…or cry. Ive taken as many advil as I dare, anything else that could help other than the ER and a horse tranquilizer?

Be carful with that ear , I lost my hearing with a ear infection that was antibiotics resistant, hot wet rag in a ziplock was a help

Warm compress has been a life saver. If it’s not better tomorrow AM I’ll head to the ER I guess.

Other than taking some serious narcos you’re going to have to ride out the pain for another night IMO. I used to get them and the antibiotics would take 1-2 days to help.

I feel for you, not much worse on the pain scale than a bad ear infection.

I feel stupid for not asking for something else. I just assumed it would start working!!!

I went in for ear pain that turned into vertigo a few years back. Was misdiagnosed with an infection. Made it two days with the worst pain I have ever had in my head/ears. My GSP literally started crying and I figured it was time to go back in. Ended up being a major stroke....hopefully your antibiotics kick in and knock it out...but if it doesn't go away or it gets unbearable while laying down go get it looked at.....

Old ear medicine was animal fat oil.the skunk was used here but I have use olive oil but to thin. you need an oil that sets up at body temp.
Once the infection is bad though a doctor is needed.
oil works when you first feel it coming on.
I have always been prone to ear infections in high wind and the wife’s family had skunk oil cuz my family never knew the old ways.
deer fat rendered down might work but never tried it.

If you’re not using Tylenol I would add that. Those who say it doesn’t work often are underdosing. I usually recommend alternating it with ibuprofen every 4 hours (so you take a dose of each individual medication 8 hours apart) or if it’s easier you can take Tylenol and ibuprofen together every 8 hours. Assuming you are healthy and don’t have issues with your stomach, kidneys or liver and are not on blood thinners, than I would suggest 1000 mg of Tylenol and 600mg of ibuprofen every 8 hours.

I battled the same thing. Came on 18 months ago, every 4-5 months I’d get another infection, hurt like hell, bleed, then plugged with blood. Doc would flush the ear and cut a drain hole in my ear drum and suck the crud out. That is zero fun and some of the most intense pain I've ever felt. So if they want to do that, I suggest asking for lots of numbing stuff.

From my Doc. A solution of 1/2 hydrogen peroxide and 1/2 sterile water or saline solution helps soften and flush out the residual dried blood. Drip in 3-6 drops, lay with that ear up, let it fizz for 5 minutes. Then put Kleenex or TP over and turn over to let it flush out. If you do it often enough you’ll see little specks of dried blood coming out. She told me 2x a day, I did it at least 10x. Hard to hear with a blood clogged ear. Takes a while, but helps.

My issue was my ear tube was too small to drain, it would plug and an infection ensued. Pain built up and it would drain out blood. Finally got the large ear tubes put in that ear, no more infections. Regular ones did not work. Good luck!

I hear you...I have been battling a sinus infection for 3 months. And the ear pain is harsh to say the least. I have been to urgent care 3 times while I wait for my ENT appointment.

I have used some rx numbing drops on my kids before. You could call your dr and see if he would prescribe some. They worked like magic for temporary relief.

The only thing that compares pain wise is anabcessed tooth. My ear infection burst my eardrum and it was a sweet relief. Oddly o still have pretty good hearing 40 years later.

The ear drops will provide the fastest pain relief, your dog should have given you a script for some yesterday.

For guys getting ear infections often, consider getting physical therapy for your jaw joint. I have pretty bad tmj, when it flares up the inflammation pinches my eustation tube shut and I would get an ear infection. After the 8th one in 12 months I finally figured out the root cause, and 2 months into PT I haven't had another ear infection.

As a grown man, I thought ear infections were a childs disease.

In the last couple years when work and family gets stressful, it manifests itself in an ear infection. It's miserable. Sorry to hear you're going thru it.

I get em from time to time, used to get them all the time but thankfully infrequent now. When I feel one coming on, I take mucinex to relieve the pressure and drain the fluid in the ear. A male nurse practitioner told me to do that a while back and it was a game changer.

This was after growing up with ear issues and going to all kinds of specialists all the time. Been wearing hearing aids since youth. Took some dude many years later to help fix that recurring problem. His concept was to remove the fluid as opposed to drying it up.

Anyway - hang tight, it'll go away pretty soon.

My son gets ear infections pretty regularly, less so now that he had tubes, but still gets them. We fill a sock up with uncooked rice and microwave it to get it good and warm. Seems to work a little better as a compress than wet rags and holds some heat for a good amount of time.
