Been looking at several of these. What’s the Toyota Tacoma of E-Bikes?

the reviews on the rad bikes seem like chinese junk. a buddy used a rambo bike with a trailer and hauled out my whole boned out elk last year. it was all down hill but was still super impressive. and they are not 6k like the trek e bikes.. i would like to pick one up also but there is just to many options
 
what ever happened to pedaling? You cant put powered by Mtn Ops stickers on ebikes, just saying!
 
I'm building a cheap one right now. I think it will work well for North Idaho, where we have a lot of roads that you cant get a motorcycle or ATV by a gate, but its still legal to have something motorized on the road (mainly state land). Also the fact that with a brushless motor they are almost completely quiet.

Ever bait bears before? It would save me so much time. Checking and hauling bait into multiple baits three times a week sucks. You would want one too. ;)

You can put a motor kit on just about any bike now and save a lot of money. I'll wait till they make some ST Maxx to fit them myself lol

Idk about the reviews. I just know between buddies they have about 10 of them and all have treated them well for the past few years. Ive used there's plenty and like them. I'm planning on picking up a couple this year
 
As ive encouraged others, its's not that hard to build your own. Built up my full suspension Gary Fisher this year and it rocks w/ a 750W bafang on it. Only weighs 42 or 43lbs!

Your on the wrong thread. When your on day 8 and have to pedal uphill with a few hundred pounds in a trailer, you'll be thankful for the technology.

For the record that hasn't happened to me be I've thought if I shoot something here I'm screwed

You should look at Trek, along with the hunter marketed brands. Little bit better parts usually. And a greater chance of having a local shop to test drive and for service. You will pay more though. Friend bought a quiet kat, and it is nice.
 
Ryan: I've never hunted bear or maintained baits but is there a reason an ebike has an distinct advantage over an ATV? Land use laws? Electric ok, combustion is not?
I love cycling but I'm having a hard time understanding the cost/benefit of these ebikes. I thought they were developed just to avoid uphill pedalling.

I don't want this to come across as argumentive or dismissive of ebikes.

There are several roads and trails I can get a bike down but not a ATV. Plus it would be quit. I would also use it on lots of motorcycle trails for elk and deer.

Sure. Look for the bafang 750watt kit on ebay (i waited for a 15%off coupon). Got it for under $400 i think. The batteries were $110 apiece off hobby king (i got four but run 2 at a time. Youll need two splitters to run two at a time (bout $6 each on ebay). My 4 port charger was about $225.
We made a battery box to sit inside the frame with some 1/4" plastic sheeting. Heat welded and screwed together. Need to leave a hole on the bottom side for the battery cables to come out.
The kit is easy to install, just remove bottom bracket and replace with motor/crank assembly. The hardest part was making the box as it is a custon fit all the way. My soldering iron wasnt good enough for the large battery cables but i hear that RC hobby stores will weld the adapter plugs on for you for a small fee. The box can be skipped though if you decide to carry the batteries in a backpack and run a wire down to the motor (this seems like an accident waiting to happen though).
I never looked into how to post pics on here, but i can text some to you if that helps.
Got a bird this year by silently cruising and calling on a forest road. If i was in the truck i wouldnt have heard them at all and or bumped them. Ive done this same thing on a plain old mtn bike for more years than i care to count, but its way more fun and relaxing on the e-bike. Its a good tool to add to the box.

...and one of the benefits of a kit bike is it doesnt scream E-bike to every tom dick and harry that sees you. A nice benefit if you lock it up and go into a store. Thieves understand that 4"tires are many times attached to motors (=$). Also way lighter which means greater range.
