Be thinking of purchasing one... should I go floorless or not... any particular brand better than others?? Any firsthand experience would be appreciated... this would be for early season hunting solo

Like archery season? You want tarp or enclosed?

There are many good options out there, need more info regarding your requirements ie., how many people, heated/stove jack or not, etc. As far as manufactures that make excellent products take a look at MLD, SO, HMG, LG, and Zpacks, to name a few.

Solo use ... as far as I can see SO is the only one who offers stove jacks in a couple of their bigger ones... september hunting need room for gear and myself...

If you're wanting something UL wt. just for solo use, you wouldn't want a wood burning stove in something that small anyway. Having owned several DCF solo or two person shelters from Locus Gear, Hyperlite Mountain Gear, Mountain Laurel Designs, and Bearpaw Wilderness Designs, my favorite for sure is the Locus Gear Hapi. It's just a standard Mid, so very easy to pitch, it's big enough for two and a little gear, or one and all your gear plus room to spare, and only weighs about 12 oz., with guy lines, in the stuff sack. The HMG Ultamid 2 is also a very well built Mid, but it's also a fair amount larger and heavier, and would probably be overkill for just one person.
