Got 12 nights in my 2P solid last trip. Don't mind the extra weight having the extra room inside during bad weather. Vestibule was still big enough for my pack. Able to spread all my wet gear out inside. Even with wet gear inside the condensate was manageable. Seen hot, hail, snow, smoke, and lots of rain. Worst part was having to try and find any sticks up on this plateau for the two tents. Can't give up my poles all day in the sheep mountains. Only thing I will change is bring some longer stakes that are a little stronger.

I ended up buying Durston’s poles for mine and am glad I did. The two poles fold down to around 1 foot long sections and weigh about 6.5 ounces total.

This has been on my short list as I'm in the market for a solid backpacking tent that's not going to set me back 400. Stuck on whether to go 1p or spring for more room/more weight to be more comfortable for later season hunts.

Do you feel cramped in the 1p at all? I'm 6'4" 225 and kind of concerned about 1p generally for that reason.

I’ve looked at this tent many times, just worried about how it would perform in AK.

Been thinking about a Durston for a while.. is the 2p worth the weight penalty (for 1 person), or is the 1p plenty big?

And if the 1p is big enough, what’s it do better than the SG skyair ult?

SO much more space. You can sit up, easier to get in/out, handles condensation and heavy rains better, but there’s a weight penalty. What it doesn’t do is pitch mega skinny like the ULT.

also kinda hard above tree line, it needs some robust staking and solid earth.

I’m signed up for the in stock alert on this tent and plan to pick it up. Been looking for an ultralight tent that can accommodate 2 25” wide pads and this looks like the ticket.

Yes. I’ve used the SG since release and really like it for early season stuff when it’s dry - I started using the xmid 1p this year because I wanted easier entry, more coverage and room to sit up easy.

The SG is good for the weight; it just makes a few sacrifices to get there. Having lived with them for years, was ready for a little more space in a 1-man trek pole shelter.

Thanks for that info. The SG really isnt any lighter - for the full tarp, mesh insert, and vestibule, its listed as 27.3oz, and the x-mid 1p is 28.. the SG would be a little more versatile since you can use it in different configurations, but the benefits you mentioned make the x-mid sound better.

Now if I could just decide if I need the 1p or 2p...

Man the footprint is killer. There’s so much vestibule space so if always going solo I would 100% get a 1p. They put out a “skinny” pitch video for them which is a handy skill to have.

I have a solid version so it’s like 31-32 oz.

Better is always relative but it’s for sure a very comfortable shelter to use. Especially in wet conditions.

I used a 1P Solid on this years sheep hunt. 14 or 15 days and I was very happy with it. I also a have a Hilleberg Akto that I really like as well. Thought I’d try and shed a little more weight this year and bought this Durston. The final weight difference after adding maximum stakes and cord to the X-mid, is just under one pound difference.

Just finished quick 5 day mule deer hunt…. Absolutely loved it. One vestibule for personals, the othe side for gun/pack. One of my better purchases for this season,

I like the Tarptent strarospire Ultra better. Had great specs is longer and wider and is using sail cloth for material.

I love my xmid 2. I got the solid version but haven't actually used the inner yet. It would have been handy on my recent hunt with 20F temps in a very humid drainage with constant wet snow. I had lots of condensation and then ice on the inside of my fly.

I use it just for myself. I figured I'd get the 2p in case my wife or someone wants to come with me.

However, now I'm thinking I want the 1p instead so I can get the Argali Rincon for a hot tent and keep the xmid 1 for just myself when it's warmer.

Tons of space in the 2p. I love it. Just don't love that it doesn't have a stove jack.

Gave the tent a trial run this weekend on scouting trip.
-Spacious nest for 1 (6’1, 250), wasn’t rubbing ends or side
-good amount of room in double vestibules

X-Mid 2P has 4" more headroom and 2" more length. Fabrics are comparable. X-Mid has much smaller footprint with more floor area. (83x100 X-Mid vs 95x106 Stratospire).

all good points but stratospire ultra is 1” wider and 5 oz lighter. Plus sail cloth is a much more advanced fabric with waterproof properties off the chart. Although more expensive. Both great options.
