I know different tents completely. Ive got a X-dome 2 solid (50.5 oz) on order, thinking it would be a good all-around tent for all around backcountry use for my brother and law and me in Arizona below treeline. Also good for 2 person backpacking.

Ive got 11 and 8 year old girls and am wanting to take them on backpacking trips. Current tent I have is an REI Half Dome SL 3+. The Tarptent hog back (63.2 oz) looks like a nice roomy option that is light enough for packing but not cramped for car camping.

Any suggestions for an option that would cover 2 man hunting trips as well as family camping for 3 (could be packing or car camping)?

I guess another way to ask is for roomy, light, 3p, 3+ season options. Or is everything going to be tto much of a compromise?

The Tarptent triple rainbow looks to be about the same weight and footprint as the X-Dome 2, just with more floor area without the diagonal floor....

I have an x-mid 1 for solo trips.+

I have an x-dome 1+ as well as the hogback. So I’m familiar with both companies and similar styles. The hogback would make a good 2p tent plus room for gear in the tent as there are arguably no vestibules. This would help push your seasonal use as well in my opinion with more gear. It’s a great 3p tent for same reasons. I believe the x-dome 2 would be pushing the limits for 3p.
