Anyone have experience with the new Durston Iceline trekking poles? I am in the market and they seem like a good option but am curious if they are strong enough for heavy pack use. I was a fan of the s and s poles but they are discontinued and I have a pair of the Leki ultralight fx one but those aren’t suitable for hunting use really. Since the weight is similar I am wondering if these durstons are more in the strength category of the Leki than the S and S poles.

I used a set this past weekend. Only about 9 miles total with pack. Went through some rock slides. They feel like super light compared to some other poles. held up fine on the hike and holding my tent up during a storm. First impression is they are tougher than they should be for the weight but I am far from putting them through any sustained use. So far I do really like the snap together lower section. Simple and solid. Time will tell how tough they are.

Thanks for the feedback. The Leki ones I have flex quite a bit if you really pull on them and let you know that if you caught a fall with them and a heavy pack you would probably snap them (plus you use them with the gloves and clip). But if the Durston’s larger diameter makes them stiffer they could be a sweet deal. Also wondered if the lower section ever pops off when the tip gets stuck in something.

These feel as stiff or stiffer than a pair of black diamond carbons I have. I didn’t get a tip stuck but pulled pretty hard by hand on them prior to the trip and couldn’t get it to come apart. There is a release button you press to release it. I do wonder if that could get jammed with dirt over time and malfunction.

Man it'd be nice if they were working well because the weight is awesome but I guess I'm going to stick with my Costco poles for another few years.

40 miles on mine, zero issues, super light and way stiffer than anything else below 16oz I've tried. Will see how they wear i guess

Appreciate the info here as I've been looking at these too since I have my doubts about the durability of the $40 Costco Cascade tech poles. Hopefully they can last long enough for Durston to get the kinks worked out on these

I'm glad he finally saw it my way and added straps :) I had a bit of a friendly discussion with him about them. He doesn't (didn't) think they were necessary but I did. He must have seen the light or at least realized many of us would not buy them unless they had straps.

I have about 60 miles on mine so far. Waited for the strapped version. Like them a lot so far they will need a lot of miles to live up to their predecessors. Have about 2,000 issue free miles on my previous pair of poles black diamond carbon z. I’m lighter at 150 lbs.
