Does anyone know of a place near Durango that will store/hang elk? My google search for wild game processing came up with Salazar Meats but that's in Manassa. We have two tags and I'm trying to come up with a game plan so we can get back out after them again. Depending on the processor I'm even open to having them butcher/ package it and driving back from AZ to pick it up when its finished. Thanks in advance.

Not in Durango, but there is a taxidermist/game processor north of cortez on the way to dolores. Its called Colorado world class taxidermy training. His name is Richard. Nice guy, good work on both aspects of taxidermy and meat processing.

That would be perfect, I know of the general area you are talking about. If you have it, can you PM me his contact info?

I was able to find him on google and just got off the phone with Richard. He seems like an honest old timer with a lot of knowledge. Unfortunately, he said he doesn't do meat processing anymore and is in the process of selling his business. So the search continues...

Last year we used cannibal canyon custom meat processing and he was great. It's not a shop like others but he did a great job and was much faster. He was also cheaper then some of the shops and we got much more meat back then we have from some of the other local processors. I would highly recommend.
